(271) 分けて入る庭しもやがて野辺なれば萩の盛りをわがものに見る
他人の庭だけれどすっかり野辺の佇まいなので、分け入って萩の盛りを独り占めして見ます

(272) 今日ぞ知るその江に洗ふ唐錦萩咲く野辺に有りけるものを
錦江で晒した唐錦が珍重されるが、萩咲く野辺に錦があることを今日知りました

その江：蜀の国の川の錦江。そこで晒された錦は蜀の名産。
(273) 茂りゆきし原の下草尾花出でて招くは誰を慕ふなるらん
野原の生い茂る下草から細い尾花が顔を出しています。彼らは誰に憧れ、手招きしているのだろうか。
Thin tail flowers are emerging from the
luxuriant undergrowth in the field. I
wonder whom they longs for and are beckoning to.
尾花：ススキの別名
(274) 花薄心あてにぞ分けてゆくほの見し道の跡しなければ
かつてはかろうじて見えた道の跡も見えなくなったので、ススキの野を心あてに分け入っていきましょう
The traces of the road that were once barely visible, but are no longer, so let's guess and go through the
pampas
grass fields.
花薄（はなすすき）
(275) 籬荒れて薄ならねど刈萱もしげき野辺ともなりにけるものを
庭の生垣は荒れ果て、ススキの代わりに草の茂みが生い茂る野原になってしまいました
The hedges of the garden have fallen into
disrepair, and it has become a field full of grass bushes instead of the pampas
grass.

刈萱（かるかや）:イネ科の多年草。ススキに似る。
(276) をみなえし分けつる野辺と思はばや同じ露にし濡るるとしならば
どうせ露に濡れるのだったら、オミナエシが生える野辺の露と思いたい
If I'm going to get wet with dew, I'd like
to think of it as dew on the field where Ominaeshi grows.
(277) をみなへし色めく野辺にふればはん袂に露やこぼれかかると
野原を歩くと色鮮やかに咲くオミナエシが袖に触れて露が落ちてきます
As I walk through the fields, the colorful ominaeshi
flowers touch my sleeves and dew falls from them.
(278) 今朝見れば露のすがるに折れ伏して起きも上がらぬ女郎花かな
今朝見れば、オミナエシは露の重みで折れ伏して起きも上がることもできないようです
This morning, the ominaeshi is bent
over under the weight of the dew, and unable to get up or stand up.
（意訳）女郎花は今朝の別れの悲しさに折れ臥すほどに涙します
The ominaesshi is so sad about this
morning's farewell that it is almost broken down in tears.
(279) おほかたの野辺の露にはしほるれどわが涙なきをみなへしかな
オミナエシは野辺の露にしおるれるものだけど、私の涙にしおれることはありません
The ominaeshi withers from the dew
on the field, but it never withers from my tears.
(280) 花が枝に露の白玉貫きかけて折る袖濡らすをみなへしかな
オミナエシの茎に白玉のような露がついて（誓いのしるしに）茎を折る袖を濡らします
White dew like beads forms on the stems of the ominaeshi and wets the sleeves as they are snapped off (as a
sign of
the vow).

(281) 折らぬより袖ぞ濡れぬる女郎花露むすぼれて立てるけしきに
露に濡れて立つオミナエシの様子に、契りを誓って袖を折らない前に私の袖は濡れてしまいました
Seeing the dew-soaked ominaeshi standing there, my sleeves got wet before I could fold them up to make the
promise.
(282) 池の面に影をさやかにうつしもて水鏡見るをみなへしかな
オミナエシは池の水面に自分の影がくっきりと映る水鏡を眺めています。
The ominaeshi is looking at the
water mirror that casts a clear shadow of itself on the surface of the pond.
(283) たぐひなき花の姿ををみなへし池の鏡にうつしてぞ見る
オミナエシは、自らのたぐひなく美しい姿を池の鏡にうつして見ます
The Ominaeshi sees its own uniquely
beautiful reflection in the mirror of the pond.
(284) をみなへし池のさなみに枝ひちてもの思ふ袖の濡るる顔なる
オミナエシの、池のさざ波に枝が浸かっている様は、もの思いに袖を濡らしている（涙を流す）かの様です
The branches of the Ominaeshi are
dipping in the ripples of the pond, as if it is weeping with thought.

(285) 思ふにも過ぎてあはれに聞ゆるは萩の葉乱る秋の夕風
秋の夜風の音は、想像を遥かに超えて、萩の葉を揺らしながら哀愁を帯びています
The sound of the autumn evening wind, which is far beyond my imagination, is sorrowful, as it rustles the bush
clover
leaves.
(286) おしなべて木草の末の原までになびきて秋のあはれ見えけり
木々や草が野原の端まで揺れなびく様子に、秋の哀愁が漂います。
The way the trees and grass sway and bend
to the edge of the field exudes the melancholy of autumn.
(287) 牡鹿伏す萩咲く野辺の夕露をしばしもためぬ荻の上風
牡鹿が伏す萩の咲く野辺では、荻の上を吹く風が夕露をしばしも留めません
In the bush clover-filled field where the
stags lie down, the wind blowing over the reeds never keeps the dew for even a
moment.
牡鹿（をしか）伏す萩：鹿がいつも萩に寄り添うとされた。
荻（オギ）の上風（うわかぜ）：荻の上を吹く風。
(288) あたりまであはれ知れとも言ひ顔に荻の音こす秋の夕風
荻の原を吹き渡る秋の夕風は、あたり一面にあはれを知らすかのようです
The sound of the wind blowing across the
field of ogi on an autumn evening seems to spread a sense of sadness all
around.

(289) 吹きわたす風にあはれをひとしめていづくもすごき秋の夕暮れ
秋の夕暮れは、荒涼とした風が吹きわたって、どこも寂しいです
In the autumn evening, the desolate wind
blows and it's lonely everywhere.

すごき：荒涼として寂しい
(290) おぼつかな秋はいかなる故のあればすずろに物の悲しかるらん
私は不思議に思います。秋はどうしてこんなに悲しいのでしょう。

(292) なにとなくもの悲しくぞ見えわたる鳥羽田の面の秋の夕暮れ
なぜだか分かりませんが、一面に広がる鳥羽の田の秋の夕暮れは物悲しく見えます
I don't know why, but the autumn evening
over the fields of Toba looks sad.

(293) 寝覚めつつ長き夜かなと磐余野に幾秋さてもわが身経ぬらん
磐余野に長い秋の夜を寝覚めつつすごしていると過ぎ去ったいくつもの秋のことがしみじみ思い出されます
As I lie awake through the long autumn
nights in Iwareno, I am reminded of many autumns that have passed.

(294) おほかたの露には何のなるならん袂におくは涙なりけり
おおかたの露は何が元なのでしょうか。袂の露は私の涙です
What is the source of most dew? The dew on
my sleeves are my tears.
(295) 山里の外面の岡の高き木にそぞろがましき秋蝉の声
山間の村の外れの丘の高い木で落ち着きなく鳴く秋の蝉
Autumn cicadas chirp restlessly in the
trees high on the hills outside a mountain village.
外面（そとも）：家の外
そぞろがましい：落ち着きなく
(296) 玉に貫く露はこぼれて武蔵野の草の葉むすぶ秋の初風
宝玉を繋いだような露をこぼして武蔵野の秋の初風が草の葉を揺らしています
The first autumn wind in Musashino
rustles the grass leaves, shedding jewel-like dew.
貫く（ぬく）
(297) 穂に出でて篠の小薄招く野にたはれて立てる女郎花かな
オミナエシは、穂を出した若い薄を招くように野に戯れて立っています
The ominaeshi stands in a field, frolicking
and inviting the young grass that has just sprouted.
穂に出でて：花穂が出て（恋心を暗示）
篠の小薄：まだ穂の出ない薄（「を」は男を暗示）
たはれて：戯れて
(298) 花をこそ野辺の物とは見に来つれ暮るれば虫の音をも聞きけり
野辺といえば花を見に来ますが、日が沈むと虫の鳴き声も聞こえてきます
When we think of the fields, the flowers we come to see, but when the sun goes down, we also come to hear
the insects.
(299) 荻の葉を吹き過ぎて行く風の音に心乱るる秋の夕暮れ
The sound of the wind blowing through the
reed leaves stirs the soul on an autumn evening.
(300) はれやらぬ深山の霧のたえだえにほのかに鹿の声きこゆなり
深い山の晴れそうもない霧の中で、時折かすかな鹿の鳴き声が聞こえます。
In the deep mountain fog that never seems
to clear, the faint sounds of deer can occasionally be heard.

(301) かねてより梢の色を思ふかな時雨はじむる深山辺の里
かねてより梢のもみじはまだかと思っていたところ、時雨はじめたので深い山辺の里の紅葉が始まるだろう
I had been wondering when the maples would turn red, but now that it has started to rain, I think the leaves in
the deep
mountain villages will start to turn red.
(302) 鹿の音を垣根にこめて聞くのみか月もすみけり秋の山里
秋の山里では、垣根の内に鹿の音を聞くだけではなく月の澄んだ光も照らします
In the autumn mountain village, not only can you hear the deer among the fences, but the clear light of the
moon shines
upon you.
(303) 庵に漏る月の影こそさびしけれ山田は引板の音ばかりして
庵に漏れる月の光こそ寂しゅうございます。山の田の鳴子の音ばかりが聞こえてきて。
The moonlight filtering into the hermitage is truly lonely. All I can hear is the clapping of the rattles in the rice
fields in the mountains.

(304) わづかなる庭の小草の白露をもとめて宿る秋の夜の月
秋の夜の月が庭の小さな草の露の中に見えます。
The moon of an autumn night is seen in the
dew on a few little grasses in the garden.
(305) なにとかく心をさへはつくすらんわが歎きにて暮るる秋かは
なぜこんなに深い思いがするのだろう。私の悲しみによって秋が深まるのでしょうか。
Why do I feel so deeply? Is autumn
deepening because of my sadness?
(306) 秋の夜の空に出づてふ名のみして影ほのかなる夕月夜かな
秋の夜といえば中秋の名月ですが、この夜はほのかな月明かりです。
It is thought of the harvest moon on autumn
nights, but this evening is with a faint moonlight.
(307) 天の原月たけのぼる雲路をばわきても風の吹きはらはなん
天の原を月が高く登ります。月の路の雲をばとくに風に吹きはらってほしい
The moon is rising high in the sky. I wish
the wind would blow away the clouds in the moon's path.
(308) うれしとや待つ人ごとに思ふらん山の端出づる秋の夜の月
秋の夜、山の端から昇る月は、月を待つ人々と同じくらい幸せな気分になるでしょう。
The moon rising from the edge of the mountain on an autumn night will feel as happy as people who wait for
the moon.
(309) なかなかに心つくすも苦しきに曇らば入りね秋の夜の月
晴れるかどうかなんて気にするより、曇ってたら秋の夜の月を山の向こうに隠してしまおう
Rather than worrying about whether it will be clear or not, if it is cloudy, let's just put the autumn night moon
behind
the mountains.
(310) いかばかりうれしからまし秋の夜の月すむ空に雲なかりせば
秋の夜、雲ひとつない空に月が見えたらどんなに幸せだろう
How happy I would be if the moon appeared
on the cloudless sky on an autumn night.

待つほどもなく出る月のうれしくて、山の端に入る月は心残りです
I'm happy when the moon rises without
hesitation, but I feel sad when it sets in at the edge of the mountain.

(313) 水の面に宿る月さへ入りぬるは池の底にも山やあるらん
水の面に映る月さへ隠れるのは池の底にも山があるのでしょうか
Even the moon reflected on the surface of
the water is hidden. Is there a mountain at the bottom of the pond?
(314) 慕はるる心やゆくと山の端にしばしな入りそ秋の夜の月
慕われて心が山の端に傾くものですが、秋の夜の月よ、しばらくは止まっていてください
The heart is drawn to the edge of the
mountain, but please, the moon stay still for a while on this autumn night.
(315) 明くるまで宵より空に雲なくてまたこそかかる月見ざりつれ
昨夜から明けるまで空に雲なくて、このような月は未だかつて見たことがありません
There were no clouds in the sky from last
night until dawn, and I've never seen a moon like this before.
(316) 浅茅原葉末の露の玉ごとに光つらぬく秋の夜の月
荒れた野原に生える茅の葉先の露玉を秋の夜の月の光がつらぬいています
The moonlight of an autumn night penetrates
the dewdrops on the tips of the grass leaves in the barren field.
(317) 秋の夜の月を雪かとまがふれば露も霰の心地こそすれ
秋の夜の月を雪と見まがうのなら露を霰と見もするでしょう
If you mistake the moon on an autumn night
for snow, you will also mistake dew for hail.
(318) 月ならでさし入る影のなきままに暮るるうれしき秋の山里
月の光の他にはさし入る影のないままに暮れる秋の山里のうれしさ
The joy of autumn in a mountain village
where the sun sets and there are no shadows except for the moonlight.
(319) 清見潟月すむ空の浮雲は富士の高嶺の煙なりけり
清見潟を照らす月の空に浮かぶ雲は富士の峰の煙です
The clouds floating in the moonlit sky over
Kiyomi-gata are the smoke from the peak of Mt. Fuji.

(320) 水錆ゐぬ池の面ての清ければ宿れる月もめやすかりけり
錆びのない池の水面は澄んでいて、月の光が目に優しく映ります。
The surface of the rust-free pond is clear,
and the moonlight is gentle on the eyes.
