(483) 紅葉散る野原を分けて行く人は花ならぬまた錦きるべし
紅葉が舞う野原を歩く人は、花ではない錦をまとっていることでしょう。

秋の末に、宝輪にこもりてよめる
(484) 大井川井堰によどむ水の色に秋深くなる程ぞ知らるる
大井川の堰によどむ水の色を見ると秋が深くなったことが分かります
The color of the stagnant water at the Oi
River dam indicates that autumn has arrived.

(486) わがものと秋の梢を思ふかな小倉の里に家居せしより
小倉の里の家に居ると秋の梢をわがものと思ってしまいます
When I'm at home in Ogura Village, I
feel like the autumn treetops are my own.

秋の末になると山里では木の葉を枯らす風が吹いて悲しさを思い知ります

(488) 暮れはつる秋の形見にしばし見ん紅葉散らすな木枯の風
秋も終わりに近づき、秋の名残に紅葉をしばし眺めましょう。風よ紅葉を散らさないでおくれ。

(489) 秋暮るる月なみ分くるやまがつの心うらやむ今日の夕暮れ

gaps.
葎（むぐら）：蔓草の総称。
(472) いつよりか紅葉の色は染むべきと時雨にくもる空に問はばや
いつから紅葉の色は染まるのでしょうかと、時雨がちな空に問うてみましょう
When will the leaves start to turn red?
Let's ask the rainy sky.
(473) 糸鹿山時雨に色を染めさせてかつがつ織れる錦なりけり
糸鹿山では時雨に色を染めさせて、少しずつ紅葉の錦が織られていきます
At Mt. Itoka, the leaves are dyed in
raindrops, and little by little, a brocade of autumn leaves is woven.
糸鹿山（いとかやま）：和歌山県有田市の南部に位置する山。紀伊国の歌枕。近世の熊野街道が通った。
かつがつ織る：少しずつ織る。
(474) 染めてけり紅葉の色のくれなゐを時雨ると見えし深山辺の里
深い山里は時雨れて紅葉がすすむだろうと思っていたが、すでに木の葉は真っ赤に染まっていました
I thought the rains would be coming down in
the deep mountain villages and the leaves would be turning red, but the leaves
were already turning bright red.

(475) さらぬだに声弱かりし松虫の秋の末には聞きもわかれず
そうでなくても弱い声の松虫は晩秋にには聞きわけることもできなません
Even if that wasn't the case, the pine
crickets' weak voices are difficult to hear in the late autumn.
(476) 梢あれば枯れゆく野辺はいかがせん虫の音残せ秋の山里
梢が残るなら野原が枯れるのは仕方ないけれど、どうか山里に虫の音だけは残しておいてください

mountain village.
寂然、高野にまゐりて、深秋紅葉と云う事をよみけるに

(478) 限りあればいかがは色のまさるべきあかず時雨るる小倉山かな
葉の色づきには限度があるけれど小倉山は飽かずに時雨れています
Ogurayama is showered with rain, but there
is a limit to how much color the leaves can change.
(479) もみじ葉の散らで時雨の日数経ばいかばかりなる色にはあらまし
もしも、もみじの葉が落ちず、何日も秋の雨にさらされていたら、紅葉の色はどれほど鮮やかになったことでしょう

The grasshoppers that cry sadly on the grass growing on the wall must have hated the dew in the drizzling
garden.
(462) 小萩咲く山田の畔の虫の音に庵守る人や袖濡らすらん
庵で田畑を守る人は、萩の咲く畔の虫の音を聞きながら、きっと袖を濡らすだろう
Those who protect the fields in a hermitage will surely get their sleeves wet listening to the sound of insects
on the
banks where the bush clover blooms.
畔（くろ）：「あぜ」と同義。
(463) うち過ぐる人なき路の夕されば声にて送るくつわ虫かな
すれちがう人もいない夕暮れの路、クツワムシが鳴いて見送ってくれます
On the way at dusk, with no one passing by,
the sound of a kutsuwamushi sees me off.
(464) ながむれば袖にも露ぞこぼれける外面の小田の秋の夕暮れ
秋の夕べ、家の外の田を眺めていると私の袖も露に濡れてきます。
On an autumn evening, as I look at the rice
field outside the house, my sleeves get wet with dew.
外面（そとも）：家の外
(465) 吹き過ぐる風さへことに身にぞしむ山田の庵の秋の夕暮れ
山田の小屋の秋の夜は、吹き抜ける風が特に心に染み渡ります
The wind that blows by particularly soak

(466) 君が住む宿の坪をば菊ぞかざる杣の宮とはいふべかるらん
中庭を菊でかざり主君が住む宿は聖の宮といふべきでしょう
The residence of the lord should be called a sacred palace, where the courtyard is decorated with
chrysanthemums.

(467) 幾秋にわれあひぬらん長月の九日に摘む八重の白菊
幾つの秋に私は会ったでしょうか。9月の九日に八重の白菊を摘みます
How many autumns have I seen? On the ninth
day of September I will pick double white chrysanthemums.

(468) 秋深みならぶ花なき菊なれば所を霜のおけとこそ思へ
秋深く、花は枯れはて菊だけが残っている。霜は、菊を避けておいてほしいと思う

ceaselessly on an autumn night without drowsing a moment.
(453) 秋の野の尾花が袖に招かせていかなる人を松虫の声
秋の野ではススキの穂がなびいて、まるで誰かを待って袖を振っているようです。野では鈴虫が鳴いています。
In the autumn fields, the ears of silver
grass are swaying, as if they are waiting for someone to come. Bell crickets
are chirping in the fields.

(454) 夜もすがら袂に虫の音をかけて払ひわづらふ袖の白露
一晩中、袖の上で虫が鳴くので、露を払い落とすこともできません
All night long, the insects are chirping on
my sleeves, and I can't brush the dew off.
(455) きりぎりす夜寒になるを告げ顔に枕のもとに来つつ鳴くなり
コオロギは夜寒になるを告げるかのように私の枕の近くに来て鳴きます
Crickets come near my pillow and chirp, as if to tell me that it's going to be cold at night.

(456) 虫の音をよわりゆくかと聞くからに心に秋の日数をぞ経る

in thought.
(460) 草深み分け入りてとふ人もあれやふりゆく跡の鈴虫の声

(442) ひとり寝の夜寒になるにかさねばや誰がために擣つ衣なるらん
一人で寝ていると寒くなって衣を重ねて着たくなります。衣を打つ音がするのは誰のためでしょうか
When I sleep alone, it gets cold and I want
to put on more clothes. Who is making the sound of clothes clapping?
擣つ（うつ）：擣衣。砧で衣を打つこと。
(443) 小夜衣いづくの里に擣つならん遠く聞ゆる槌の音かな
夜、いづこの里で衣を打っているのだろうか。槌の音が遠く聞こえます
I wonder in which village people are
hitting clothes at night. I can hear the sound of a hammer in the distance.
年頃申しなれたる人の、伏見に住むと聞きて、尋ねまかりたりけるに、庭の草、
道見えぬほどに茂りて、虫の鳴きければ
(444) 分けて入る袖にあはれをかけよとて露けき庭に虫さへぞなく
分け入ると袖が露に濡れるほどに草が茂る哀れをさそう庭に虫さえも鳴いています
As I entered the garden, the grass grew so
thick that my sleeves got wet with dew, and even the insects were chirping in
the pitiful garden.
あはれをかける：あはれに思う。
露けし：露に濡れて湿っぽい。涙がちである。
(445) 夕されや玉おく露の小笹生に声初鳴らすきりぎりすかな
In the evening, on the small bamboo covered
with dew, a grasshopper begins to sing its first song.
小笹生（こざさふ）：小笹の生えているところ。
(446) 秋風に穂末なみよる刈萱の下葉に虫の声乱るなり
The autumn wind is rustling the tips of the
grass and the lower leaves are filled with the sounds of insects.
刈萱（かるかや）：ススキに似たイネ科の多年草。
(447) きりぎりす鳴くなる野辺はよそなるを思はぬ袖に露のこぼれる
きりぎりすが鳴くのは私とはかかわりのない野辺なのに、思いがけず袖に露がこぼれます
The grasshoppers are singing in a field
that has nothing to do with me, but dew unexpectedly falls on my sleeve.
(448) 秋風のふけゆく野辺の虫の音にはしたなきまで濡るる袖かな
秋風が吹く野原の夕暮れに虫の音が聞こえ、袖が恥ずかしいほど濡れます
At dusk in the autumn wind blowing through the fields, I can hear the sounds of insects and my sleeves get
embarrassingly
wet.
(449) 虫の音をよそに思ひて明かさねば袂も露は野辺にかはらじ
もし虫の音を聞いて夜を明かすと、私の袂は野の露のようになります
If I stay up all night listening to the insects, my sleeves will be like dew on the field.
(450) 野辺に鳴く虫もやものは悲しきに答へましかば問ひて聞かまし
野辺に鳴く虫も、もの悲しいのでしょうか。もし虫が答えてくれるならば、問うて、答えを聞きたいものです
