(231) 水の音に暑さ忘るるまとゐかな梢の蝉の声もまぎれて

この集まりでは、水の音と木の上で鳴くセミの声が私たちに暑さを忘れさせてくれます。

In this gathering the sound of the water and the chirps of the cicadas in the treetops make us to forget the 

heat.

まとゐ：まどい。集まって楽しむこと。

 

(232) 杣人の暮に宿借るここちして庵をたたく水鶏なりけり

クイナの鳴き声は、まるで山仕事の人が暮れに宿を求めて庵の戸を叩いているかのようでした

The cries of the kuina sounded like a mountain worker knocking on the door of a hermitage at the night, looking for a place to stay.

杣人（そまびと）：山仕事をする人。樵や猟師。

水鶏（クイナ）

 

(233) 夏山の夕下風の涼しさに楢の木陰の立たま憂きかな

足元で吹く夏山の夕風が涼しくて、楢の木陰から立ち去りがたいです

The evening breeze blowing at my feet in the summer mountain is so cool that it's hard to leave the shade of 

the oak tree.

下風（したかぜ）：地表低くを吹く風

 

(234) かき分けて折れば露こそこぼれけれ浅茅にまじるなでしこの花

茅をかき分けてなでしこを折り取ると、人が愛でるように露が零れ落ちました。

As I pushed aside the reeds and picked the dianthus, dew fell from it.

露（つゆ）：露を帯びたなでしこが特に賞玩された。

 

(235) 露おもみ園のなでしこいかならんあらく見えつる夕立の空

荒れ模様の夕立ちの空を見て園地のなでしこに重い露がつくのではと心配しています

Looking at the stormy sky, I am worried that heavy dew will form on the dianthus in the garden.

園（えん）：園地

 

(236) みまくさに原の小薄しがふとて臥所あせぬと鹿思ふらん

馬草にせんとして原のススキを束ねると、寝床が荒らされたと鹿はおもうのじゃないでしょうか

If you tie up pampas grass in a field to use as horse hay, the deer will think that their sleeping place has been 

disturbed.

みまくさ：御馬草

 

(237) 旅人の分くる夏野の草しげみ葉末に菅の小笠はづれて

夏草を分けて歩く旅人の菅笠がしげみの葉先に取られます

A traveler is walking through the summer grass and his sedge hat is caught by the tips of the bushy leaves.

葉末（はずゑ）

はずる（外る）：はみ出る。離れる。

 

(238) 雲雀あがる大野の茅原夏来れば涼む木陰をたづねてぞ行く

今雲雀が飛び立つこの広大な草原に、夏が来たら、涼しい木陰を求めて歩いてみよう。

When summer will come to this vast grass field where the skykark fly up now, I will walk through, seeking out the cool shade of the trees.

茅原（ちはら）

 

(239) 照射する炎串の松もかへなくに鹿目合はせで明かす夏の夜

松明の灯しを変えないうちに鹿の目を射ることもなく夏の夜が明けました

The summer night dawned without changing the light of the torch or shooting the deer in the eye.

照射（ともし）

炎串（ほぐし）：松明

鹿目合わせ：松明の明かりを反射する鹿の目を狙って射る狩り

 

(240) 夏の夜は篠の小竹の節近みそよやほどなく明くるなりけり

夏の夜は篠竹の短い節のように、そうほどなく明くるなでしょう

The summer night will light up soon like the short knots of small bamboo.
