(91) 花の色や声に染むらん鶯の鳴く音ことなる春のあけぼの
鶯の声に花の色が染まったのだろうか、鳴き声が格別に聞こえる春の曙は
I wonder if the flowers have dyed the voice of the warbler, and their songs are enchanting in particular at the
dawn of
spring.
春は花を友と云う事を、清和院の斎院にて人々よみけるに
(92) おのづから花なき年の春もあらば何につけてか日を暮らすべき
時には花のない春があるとしたら、私たちは何を頼りに日々を生きていけばいいのでしょうか？
If sometimes there were springs without
flowers, what should we rely on to live our days?
おのづから：偶然、たまたま、まれに
(93) 思ひ出に何をかせましこの春の花待ちつけぬわが身なりせば
この春の開花を待てない身であるとしたら、この世の思い出に私は何をすればいいのだろうか
If I can't wait for this spring to bloom,
what should I do with the memories of this world?
(94) わきて見ん老木は花もあはれなり今いくたびか春にあふべき
趣のある花を咲かせる古木を、これから何度春を迎えるのだろうかと思いながら、じっくり見ましょう
Please take a close look at the old trees
that bloom with quaint flowers and wonder how many springs will come on the
tree in the future.
わきて見ん：とりわけ心して見よう
老木（おいき）
(95) 木のもとは見る人しげし桜花よそにながめて香をば惜しまん
桜の木のすぐそばには見る人がひしめいています、離れて見て香りを楽しみましょう
There are many people watching right under
the cherry blossom tree, so let's stand back and enjoy the scent.
(96) 吉野山ほきぢ伝ひに尋ね入りて花見し春はひと昔かも
春に桜を見るために険しい道を歩いて吉野山に分けいったのはもうひと昔も前のことでしょうか。
It must have been a long time ago that I walked the steep path in Mt. Yoshino to see the cherry blossoms in
spring.
ほきぢ：険しい崖路
修行し侍りけるに、花のおもしろかりける所にて
(97) ながむるに花の名立の身ならずはこの里にてや春を暮らさん
私のような修行僧が花を見るなんて僭越だと花が思わない限り、私は春の間この里に住みたいと思っています。
As long as the flowers don't think it's presumptuous for a monk like me to see them, I would like to live in this
village during the spring.
名立（なたて）：評判、悪評、名折れ
(98) 待ち来つる八上の桜咲きにけりあらくおろすな三栖の山風
期待してやってきた八上の桜が咲いた。激しく吹かないでおくれ三栖山の風
The cherry blossoms in Yagami that I had come to expect have bloomed. Don't blow too hard, the wind of
Mt. Misu.
清和院の花盛りなりける頃、俊高のもとよりいひ送れりける
(99) おのづから来る人あらばもろともにながめまほしき山桜かな
自らやって来る人があれば、山桜を一緒に眺めたいものです
If there are people who come by themselves,
I would like to look at the wild cherry blossoms together.
俊高（としたか）：右兵衛佐・源能賢（としかた）男。源能賢は藤原道長時代の高官。

(100) ながむてふ数に入るべき身なりせば君が宿にて春は経ぬべし
花見の宴の数に入るべき高貴な身分であるなら、私は貴方の宿で春を過ごすでしょう
If I am of such a noble status as to be included
in the number of cherry blossom viewing parties, I will spend the spring at
your inn.

(81) 思ひやる高嶺の雲の花ならば散らぬ七日は晴れじとぞ思ふ
高根の雲の花を思って、花期の七日間は晴れると信じています
Being concerned about cloud-like flower in
mountains, I believe that it will be sunny for seven days of the flowering
period.
(82) 長閑なれ心をさらに尽くしつつ花ゆゑにこそ春は待ちしか
さらに深く思いつつも長閑な心でいよう花あればこそ春を待つのだから
Let keep my mind calm while thinking deeply
that I wait spring because of flowers blooming.
(83) 風越の峰の続きに咲く花はいつ盛りともなくや散りなん
風が越える峰続きに咲く花は、きっといつが盛りともなく散るでしょう
The flowers that bloom on the peaks that
the wind crosses over will surely fall before you have known the peaks of
blooming.
風越（かざこし）の峰：風が越える峰
(84) ならひありて風さそふとも山桜尋ぬるわれを待ちつけて散れ
いつかは風が誘って山桜の花は散るのでしょうが、せめて私が行くのを待ってください
Someday the wild cherry blossoms will fall
with the wind, but please at least wait for me to go.
(85) 裾野焼く煙ぞ春はよしの山花をへだつる霞なりける
裾野を焼く煙のように見えるのは春はよしのの山の花を隠す霞です
What looks like smoke burning the foothills
is the haze that hides the flowers of Yoshino Mountain in spring.
(86) 今よりは花見ん人に伝えおかん世を遁れつつ山に住まへと
これからは桜の花を愛でんとする人には、世を逃れ山に住みなさいと伝えましょう
From now on, I shall tell people who love
cherry blossoms to escape from the world and live in the mountains.
(87) 花見にと群れつつ人の来るのみぞあたら桜の咎にはありける
花見にと人々が群がってくるのだけは、いかんながら桜の咎ではあります
Unfortunately, the only fault with cherry
blossoms is that people flock to see them.
(88) 花も散り人も来ざらんをりはまた山の峡にて長閑なるべし
花が散り人もこなくなった山間の谷は長閑です
As the flowers have fallen and no more
people there, the mountain valley is quiet and peaceful.
峡（かひ）：山間部
かき絶え、言問はずなりにける人の、花見に山里へまうで来たりと聞きて、よみける
(89) 年を経て同じこずゑに匂へども花こそ人に飽かれざりけり
年月が経っても、同じ梢に咲く花に人は飽きることはないのですね
No matter how many years pass, people never
get tired of seeing flowers blooming on the same treetops.
かき絶え・・・人：すっかり音信や訪問のなくなってしまった人
(90) 雲にまがう花の下にてながむれば朧に月は見ゆるなりけり
雲かとも見える花の下で眺めると月は朧にみえます
The moon looks hazy when you look at it
under flowers that look like clouds.

(71) 引きかへて花見る春は夜はなく月見る秋は昼なからなん
花を見る春には夜のことは思いません、それに引きかえ月を見る秋は昼のことは思いません
When I look at the flowers in spring, I don't worry about the night; when I look at the moon in autumn, I don't
think
about the daytime.
引きかへて：そっくり取り換えて
(72) 花散らで月は雲らぬ世なりせば物を思はぬわが身ならまし
もしこの世が、花が散ったり月が雲に隠れたりしない世ならば、私は物事を心配しなくて済むだろう。
If this world were a world where flowers didn't fall and the moon didn't hide behind clouds, I wouldn't have to
worry
about things.
まし：反実仮想の表現。事実とは反対のことを想像する。
(73) たぐひなき花をし枝に咲かすれば桜に並ぶ木ぞなかりける
たぐいない花をば枝に咲かせる桜にならぶ木はありません。
There is no other tree that can compare to cherry trees, which make bloom illustrious flowers on their
branches.
(74) 身をわけて見ぬ梢なく尽くさばやよろづの山の花の盛りを
見られない梢がないように自分の分身を作ってでも、すべての山の満開の花を見尽くしたいです
Even if I create my own avatar so that there is no treetop that I can't see, I want to see all the flowers in full
bloom on every mountain.
(75) 桜咲く四方の山辺を兼ぬるまにのどかに花を見る心地する
四方の山の辺を心配して歩いたけれど、そのうち長閑に花を見る心地がしてきました。
I walked around the mountain sides with anxiety about the cherry blossoms, but eventually I felt a sense of
relaxation
looking at the flowers.
兼ぬ：兼ねる。予期する。先の事を心配する。わたる。
(76) 花に染む心のいかで残りけん捨て果ててきと思ふ我が身に
この世の何もかも放棄した私に、桜の美しさを愛でる心はどれだけ残っているだろうか。
Being a person who abandon anything in this world, how much of my heart that appreciate the beauty of the
cherry blossoms
remains?
(77) 願はくは花の下にて春死なんそのきさらぎの望月のころ
かなうものなら春に桜の花の下で死にたいものです；如月の望月のころに
I wish to die under the flowers in the
spring, around the day of full moon in February.
(78) 仏には桜の花をたてまつれわが後の世を人とぶらはば
私の死後を弔ってくださる方がいらっしゃいましたら、桜の花を供えてください
If there is anyone who would like to mourn
my death, I would like them to offer cherry blossoms.
(79) 何とかや世にありがたき名を得たる花も桜にまさりともせじ
なにやかやと世にありがたい名声を得た花も桜にまさることはないでしょう
No flower that has somehow gained a
reputation in this world can surpass those of the cherry blossoms.
(80) 山桜霞の衣厚く着てこの春だにも風つつまなん
この春、山桜は濃い霧の衣に覆われますが、風は優しく花を包んでやってください
This spring covers the wild cherry blossoms
with a thick dress of haze, but winds please wrap flowers gently.

(61) 雪閉ぢし谷の古巣を思ひ出でて花にむつるる鶯の声
鶯は雪に閉じ込められた谷の古巣を思い出して桜の花にささやいています
A uguisu whispers to the cherry
blossoms, remembering its old nest in the snow-covered valley.
むつるる：慣れ親しんでいる
(62) 吉野山雲をはかりに尋ね入りて心にかけし花を見るかな
雲を目指して吉野山を登ると、心に描いていた花を見ることができました
I climbed Mt. Yoshino directing to the
clouds, and could see the flowers I had drawn in mind.
はかりに：目当てに
(63) 思ひやる心や花に行かざらん霞こめたるみ吉野の山
吉野の山はたちこめる霞の中だけど私の心は花を思い描いています
The mountains of Yoshino are in the mist,
but my heart is imagining flowers.
(64) おしなべて花の盛りに成りにけり山の端ごとにかかる白雲
辺りは花でいっぱいになって、白い雲が山の稜線ごとににかかっているように見えます。
The area is filled with flowers, and it
looks like white clouds are hanging over each mountain ridge.
(65) まがふ色に花咲きぬれば吉野山春は晴れせぬ峰の白雲
雲かと見間違うほどに咲く吉野山の峰の白雲は晴れることがありません
Mt. Yoshino is so full of flowers that it
can be mistaken for clouds that never clear up.
(66) 吉野山梢の花を見し日より心は身にもそはず成りにき
吉野山の梢の花を見た日から心は身体を離れたままです
Since the day I saw the flowers in the
treetops of Mt. Yoshino, my mind has been separated from my body.
(67) あくがるる心はさても山桜散りなんのちや身に帰るべき
山桜を恋しんだ心は花が散っても我が身に戻らないようです
The heart that loved wild cherry blossoms
does not seem to return to me even after the flowers fall.
(68) 花見ればそのいはれとはなけれども心の内ぞ苦しかりける
なぜだか理由は分かりませんが、桜を見ると悲しくなります。
I don't know why, but I feel sad when I see
cherry blossoms.
(69) 白川の梢を見てぞなぐさむる吉野の山に通ふ心を
白河の桜を見ていると、ともすれば吉野の山に行ってしまう心が慰められます
When I look at the cherry blossoms in
Shirakawa, I feel comforted in my heart that would otherwise take me to the
mountains of Yoshino.
(70) 白川の春の梢の鶯は花のことばを聞く心地する
白川の木の梢にいるウグイスは、まるで花の言葉を聞いているかのようです
The uguisu on the tree top in
Shirakawa feels as if it were listening to the words of flowers.

(51) 雲なくて朧なりとも見ゆるかな霞かかれる春の夜の月
雲ひとつなくても、春の夜の月は霞に包まれて朧に見えます
Even if there is not a single cloud, the
moon on a spring night looks hazy, shrouded in mist.
(52) 山賤の片岡かけて占むる庵のさかひに見ゆる玉の小柳
山の斜面に掛けた猟師小屋の横に美しい柳の若木が生えています
A beautiful young willow tree grows next to
a hunter's hut on the slope of a mountain.
山賤（やまがつ）：樵、猟師など。
玉の小柳：美しい柳の若木
(53) なかなかに風のほすにぞ乱れける雨に濡れたる青柳の糸
青柳の糸のような枝は風が干そうとしても乱れるばかりで雨に濡れそぼっています
Even when the wind tries to dry the stringy
branches of the young willow, they are only disturbed and soaked in the rain.
なかなかに：かえって
ほす：乾かす
(54) 見わたせば佐保の河原に繰りかけて風に縒らるる青柳の糸
見渡すと青柳の糸が佐保の河原にあたかも掛けられて風に撚られているみたいです
Looking around, it seems that the threads
of the young willow are being hung on the riverbank of Saho and being twisted
in the wind.
佐保：奈良市北部の地名
縒る（よる）：撚る
(55) 水底に深き緑の色見えて風になみ寄る川柳かな
水底に見える深い緑色は、おそらく風に吹かれている川辺の柳でしょう。
The deep green color seen at the bottom of the
water is probably a willow by the river in the wind.
花を待ちて他を忘る
(56) 待つにより散らぬ心を山桜咲きなば花の思ひ知らなん
開花を待ちわびていた私の心を知るなら、山桜よ散らないでおくれ
If you know my heart, having waited for you
to bloom, please don't scatter, wild cherry blossoms.
(57) 誰かまた花を尋ねて吉野山苔踏み分くる岩つたふらん
誰かまた苔を踏み分け岩をつたって吉野山の花を尋ねる人があるでしょう
Someone will step through the moss and
climb the rocks to find the flowers of Mt. Yoshino.
(58) 今さらに春を忘るる花もあらじやすう待ちつつ今日も暮らさん
言うまでもなく春を忘れる花はないのだから安心して今日も暮らしましょう
Needless to say, no flower forgets spring,
so let's live today with peace of mind.
やすう：安心して
(59) おぼつかないづれの山の峰よりか待たるる花の咲きはじむらん
どの山の峰から花は咲き始めるだろうか気がかりなことです
I wonder which mountain peak the flowers
will start blooming from.
おぼつかな：気がかりな
(60) 空に出でていづくともなく尋ぬれば雲とは花の見ゆるなりけり
当てもなく庵を出ていづくともなく尋ね歩いていると桜の花が雲のように見えました
As I wandered aimlessly out of the
hermitage, the cherry blossoms looked like clouds.
