(221) 水底に敷かれにけりなさみだれて美豆の真菰を刈に来たれば

美豆のマコモを刈りに来たのですが、五月雨のために、マコモが水底に沈んでしまい、刈ることができません

I came to harvest the makomo in Mizu, but because of the May rains, the makomo has sunk to the bottom of 

the water and I can't harvest it.

美豆（みず）：山城国の地名。現在の京都市伏見区淀美豆町か。

 

(222) 五月雨の小止む晴れ間のなからめや水の嵩ほせ真菰刈る舟

五月雨が止む晴れ間がきっとあるでしょう、そうなると水位が下がって真菰を刈ることができるだろう

I am sure there will be a sunny day when the May rain stops, then the water level will drop and we will be able to

mow the makomo.

(223) 五月雨に佐野の舟橋浮きぬれば乗りてぞ人はさし渡るらん

五月雨に佐野の舟橋が浮けば、人々は乗って棹を差して渡るでしょう

If Sano's boat bridge floats in the May rain, people will get on and pole it across.

(224) 五月雨の晴れぬ日数のふるままに沼の真菰は水隠れにけり

５月の雨の日が続いて、沼のマコモが水中に隠れてしまいました

As the rainy days continued in May, the swamp's makomo has hidden in the water.

水隠れ（みがくれ）

 

(225) 水なしと聞きてふりにし勝間田の池あらたむる五月雨の頃

古くから水がない池と聞いてきた勝間田の池も、五月雨の頃は池が再生します

Katsumata Pond, which has long been known as a waterless pond, regenerates during the May rain.

勝間田（かつまた）の池：所在未詳。薬師寺近傍の大池か。

 

(226) 五月雨は行くべき道のあてもなし小笹が原も埿にながれて

五月雨の時期は笹の原は泥に押し流されて、行く手の道が見当たりません

During the rainy season in May, the fields of bamboo grass are swept away by mud and there is no way to find 

the path.

小笹（をざさ）

埿（うき）：泥土

 

(227) 五月雨は山田の畔の滝まくら数を重ねて落つるなりけり

5月の雨の季節には、山のふもとの田んぼの畔を越えてたくさんの滝が流れ落ちます

During the rainy season in May, many waterfalls cascade over the banks of rice fields at the foot of the 

mountain.

 

(228) 川ばたの淀みにとまる流れ木の浮橋渡す五月雨の頃

5月の梅雨の時期、川のよどみに流木が浮き橋のようにとどまります

During the rainy season in May, driftwoods stop in the stagnant part of the river like a floating bridge.

 

(229) 思はずにあなづりにくき小川かな五月の雨に水まさりつつ

5月の雨で思いがけず水嵩を増した小さい川は、油断してあなどることはできません。

We cannot let our guard down and underestimate the small river, which has unexpectedly increased in volume 

due to the May rains.

あなづる：軽蔑する。あなどる。

(230) 風をのみ花なき宿は待ち待ちて泉の末をまた掬ぶかな

花を咲かす木のない我宿では風が花を運んでくるのを待ち、隣家の泉から流れてくる水を掬います

In my inn, where there are no trees to bloom, I wait for the wind to bring the flowers, and I scoop up water that 

flows from the neighbor's spring.

掬ぶ：両手で水をすくう。
