(261) 船寄する天の河辺の夕暮れは涼しきかぜや吹きわたるらん

夕暮れ時には、舟を停める天の川の岸辺の空には涼しい風が吹き渡るでしょう

At dusk, a cool breeze will blow across the sky near the bank of the Milky Way where the boat is moored.

 

(262) 待ちつけてうれしかるらん七夕の心のうちぞ空に知らるる

密かに待ちうけた七夕をうれしく思う心のうちを空は知っているでしょう

The sky must know how happy I am in my heart, secretly waiting for Tanabata.

 

　　　　蜘蛛のいかきけるを見て

(263) ささがにの蜘蛛手にかけて引く糸やけふ七夕にかささぎの橋

蜘蛛は四方八方に糸を引いて巣を架けるけれど、今日の七夕はかささぎが羽を広げて橋をかけます

Spiders spin webs in all directions, but on Tanabata, the magpies who spread their wings and build a bridge.

いかきけるを：巣をかけたのを

ささがに：蜘蛛の異称

蜘蛛手：四方八方

 

(264) 夕露を払へば袖にたま消えて路分けかぬる小野の萩原

萩の原に入ると、夜露が袖で払い落とされるので、足を踏み入れるのが躊躇われます。

If I step in the bush clover field, I will brush off droplets of night dew with my sleeve, so I am hesitant to step 

into.

 

(265) 末葉吹く風は野も狭にわたるとも荒くは分けじ萩の下露

風は野を狭しとばかりに吹きわたって葉先を激しく揺らすけれど、私は露を抱いた萩の原に荒く分け入ることはしません

The wind blows across the fields and violently shakes the tips of the leaves, but I don't rush into the dew-filled 

fields of bush clovers.

末葉（すゑば）：草木の先端の葉

野も狭（せ）に：野を狭しと

 

(266) 糸薄縫はれて鹿の臥す野辺にほころびやすき藤袴かな

野辺の鹿は糸薄を縫って臥しますが、その寝床は藤袴のようにほころびやすいものです

Deer sleeps on the mat made by itosusuki in the field, but it tends to fray easily like fujibakama.

糸薄（いとすすき）：葉や茎が細い薄

ほころびやすき：つぼみが開きやすい

 

(267) 折らで行く袖にも露ぞしほれける萩の枝しげき野辺の細道

繁った萩の枝を折らないようにして野の細道を行くと袖はぐっしょり濡れます。

My sleeves got soaked as I walked along the narrow path in the field, trying not to break the branches of the 

thick bush clovers.

 

(268) 穂に出づる深山が裾のむらすすき籬に籠めてかこふ秋霧

深い山の麓の荒い生け垣に囲まれた秋霧の上にススキの先端がそびえ立っています。

At the foot of a deep mountain the tips of Japanese pampas grass rise above the autumn mist which is 

surrounded by a rough hedge.

むらすすき：群生するすすき

籬（まがき）：粗い垣根

 

(269) 乱れ咲く野辺の萩原分け暮れて露にも袖を染めてけるかな

夕暮れまで萩の花が咲き乱れる野原を歩き、袖は露で染めたようになりました

I walked through the fields of bush clover blooming until dusk, my sleeves were like to have been dyed with dew.

 

(270) 咲きそはん所の野辺にあらばやは萩より外の花も見るべき

ここは咲き誇る萩の名所の野辺ではないのだから、いろいろな花が見えてもよさそうなものなのに（他の花は見えないぐらいに萩が繁っている）

This is not a field famous for bush clovers in full bloom, so it would be natural to see a variety of flowers

 (, but the bush clovers are so thick that we can't see any other flowers).
